WIE Seminar Series (Seminar 6): Aligning Generic Learning Outcomes, Assessment and Curriculum for Work-Based Learning
Jan McKay (Department of Imagine and Applied Physics, Curtin University of Technology), Jonas Nordquist (Department of Medicine, Karolinska Institutet)
The radiography programme team undertook the university-wide exercise to ensure the undergraduate programme was constructively aligned and mapped to demonstrate that intended programme outcomes could be met.
At the same time a major project, APRIL, which aims to 'Establish an interdisciplinary framework for enhancing applied and lifelong learning in health and social care programmes', was underway. The radiography sub-project undertook to establish a set of competency outcomes that met the requirements of the clinical workplace. Case-based learning was adopted as a means of meeting outcomes required by the programme and the workplace. The case-based learning process has been progressed within the current APRIL project. An e-portfolio system has also been developed to track students' progress towards the completion of professional outcomes upon graduation.
How all these measures are incorporated to ensure a professionally relevant and academically sound degree programme will be discussed.
This seminar is one of the series of WIE seminars organized between May and December 2007. A certificate will be awarded upon completion of four or more of the seminars in the series.
