Prof. ZHANG Weixiong identifies “cancer keeper genes”

25 Mar 2025

Research Results

A research team led by Prof. ZHANG Weixiong, Associate Director of PAIR and Chair Professor of Systems Biology and Artificial Intelligence, has identified “cancer-keeper genes” (CKGs), genes that maintain cancerous cell states and are critical for cellular homeostasis and survival.

CKGs can be used as potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for diagnosing and treating cancer. Interventions targeting CKGs may terminate or prevent abnormal cell differentiation and proliferation. The research, titled “Cancer-keeper genes as therapeutic targets”, has been published in iScience.
