20230628-RCSV member shares insights in myopia progression control

RCSV member shares developments on myopia control in children

Prof. HE Mingguang, Member of the Research Centre for SHARP Vision (RCSV), Chair Professor of Experimental Ophthalmology of the School of Optometry, shared his insights on controlling myopia progression with Eastmoney.com of Xinhua Daily. Prof. He’s research has proved that repeated low-level red light therapy can effectively control myopia, and this kind of red light therapy can be achieved by a home-used device.   The best corrected visual acuity is one of the important indicators of treatment safety. Results from clinical trials have shown that the best corrected visual acuity of the intervention group and the control group are comparable, which means that the visual function is unaffected by the red light therapy. At present, many clinical trials are being carried out. In 13 parallel studies including randomised and non-randomised controlled trials, red light therapy has demonstrated a strong effect on controlling myopia.   Online coverage: Eastmoney.com of Xinhua Daily - https://polyu.me/3JyA1MF (Chinese only)
