PolyU has reaffirmed its reputation as an innovative world-class university by achieving encouraging results in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025. The University demonstrated strong performance, with seven subjects earning places among the top 30 universities worldwide. 


The achievement underscores the University’s commitment to excellence and innovation in research and education across its diverse disciplines.

 

Nursing achieves highest ranking in a decade

PolyU’s Hospitality & Leisure Management programme upheld its impressive legacy by ranking 11th globally, while Nursing reached its highest position in ten years to stand at 16th in the world. Both Architecture & Built Environment and Civil & Structural Engineering earned commendable 17th place rankings. Additionally, Art & Design and Marketing were both ranked 22nd, with Environmental Sciences following closely in 27th place.


For the first time, PolyU’s Environmental Sciences was recognised as the top programme in Hong Kong, while Hospitality & Leisure Management and Art & Design continued to excel, maintaining their premier status among local universities.


The University’s focus on all-round academic development is reflected in 26 subjects ranking among the world’s top 100. Among these, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence stands out at 40th place, highlighting PolyU’s momentum in this dynamic area.


Acknowledging the significance of AI as a key research focus, PolyU recently established the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, successfully drawing in leading AI researchers to bolster its academic team. With the approach of a new academic year, PolyU is set to unveil a new BSc (Hons) Scheme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and plans to set up the “AI+ Academy” aimed at advancing education and research in this rapidly evolving domain.


PolyU continues to demonstrate outstanding expertise in construction and environmental disciplines, with exceptional performance in Architecture & Built Environment, Civil & Structural Engineering, and Environmental Sciences. Building on this academic strength, the University will introduce a new BSc (Hons) in Architectural Studies in 2025/2026, to nurture the next generation of professionals in the construction industry.


The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 evaluated over 1,700 universities across 55 subjects and five broad subject areas, based on their academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations, H-index, and international research networks. These outstanding results highlight PolyU’s pursuit of academic excellence and its expanding footprint in the international higher education community.
