Emerging technologies in low-altitude applications and next-generation networks are paving the way for transformative digital and economic development. PolyU has established a strategic partnership with China Tower Corporation Limited (China Tower), a leader in telecommunications infrastructure, to accelerate the new quality productive forces in these critical fields.

The strategic cooperation agreement was formalised at a ceremony witnessed by Professor Jin-Guang Teng, PolyU President, and Mr Zhang Zhiyong, Chairman of China Tower, and signed by Professor Christopher Chao, PolyU Vice President (Research and Innovation), and Mr Chen Li, General Manager of China Tower. This collaboration will focus on joint research, talent development, and technology transfer.

The partnership is particularly timely, aligning with PolyU’s commitment to low-altitude economy research, highlighted by the upcoming Master’s programme in Low Altitude Economy and the establishment of the Research Centre for Low Altitude Economy last year. Professor Teng emphasised that by combining the University’s strengths in data science, artificial intelligence, and computer science with China Tower’s industry leadership, this collaboration aims to drive impactful research, create innovative platforms, facilitate technology transfer, and nurture highly skilled professionals, ultimately contributing to the Nation’s high-quality development goals.

China Tower’s commitment to innovation-driven growth, as highlighted by Mr Zhang, is evident in its position as the world’s largest telecommunications infrastructure provider. By sharing resources and aligning goals, the company aims to enhance its competitiveness. This collaboration with PolyU will leverage the strengths of both parties to create a mutually beneficial partnership.
