3 Mar 2023

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Modern Chinese Medicine International Association (MCMIA) held a forum titled "University and Industry Collaboration: Chinese Medicine Innovation" (the "Forum"). The Forum brought together experts from academia and industry in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area to exchange ideas on policies and measures needed to promote the development of Chinese medicine. The Forum attracted over a hundred participants, including industry experts, Chinese medicine practitioners, and scholars, who shared their insights on the latest Chinese medicine planning and policies in the country.

The Forum aimed to explore how stakeholders such as the governments of Hong Kong, Macau, and the mainland, as well as research institutions, can deepen research cooperation to seize the scientific research and business opportunities in the Greater Bay Area and promote the development of Chinese medicine. The Forum included panel discussions, initiatives for nurturing Chinese medicine innovation talents, and university initiatives for Chinese medicine innovation. The panel discussion was chaired by Professor Yung-Kwong Tsui, Head of the Department of Applied Social Sciences and Co-Director of the Center for Technology and Innovation Policy at PolyU, who led the participants to discuss long-term measures to promote Chinese medicine innovation in Hong Kong from the perspectives of business, technology, and policy. These suggestions will be submitted to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government during the public consultation period for the 2023 Policy Address. Subsequently, experts shared their initiatives for Chinese medicine innovation at the Forum, promoting the sharing of competitive advantages among institutions in interdisciplinary cooperation, artificial intelligence, and advanced technology.
