PolyU Received Increasepharm Management to Deepen Collaborations on Orthopedic and Ophthalmic Drug Discovery and Development Pipelines

Prof. ZHANG Baoxian, Director of Beijing Increasepharm Corporation Limited (Increasepharm) and his team made an official visit to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), which engaged the University Management and Core RCMI members for a detailed exchange on the research and development of innovative Chinese medicines and formulations, further deepening collaborations on orthopedics, ophthalmology and new Chinese compound medicines between the two sides.
It is the first formal communication since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2022, the parties established the PolyU-Increasepharm Joint Laboratory for New Drug Development with a view to developing CM-based new drugs for treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, sarcopenia, dementia, and ocular diseases.
The visit featured PolyU’s research facilities, namely, PolyU Optometry Clinic, Mass Spectrometer Laboratory, and the Simulator of Human Intestinal Microbial Ecosystem” (SHIME). It was followed by a discussion session with PolyU representatives’ presentations on their studies of TCM ophthalmology (myopia and dry eye diseases) and of the Pharmacological properties of Danggui Buxue Tang (DBT) for Vascular Dementia.
Professor Wong Wing-tak, Deputy President & Provost of PolyU, briefed the representatives on the status of the University’s R&D collaboration with industries in GBA and Mainland China, to which University attaching great emphasis. He looks forward to seeing the collaborations projects with Increasepharm come into commercial operation.
Prof. Zhang introduced the company’s current Orthopaedic and Ophthalmic drug pipelines and held in-depth discussions on the collaborations on new compound Chinese medicines, ophthalmic myopia, and dry eye.
The visit has injected new energy into the strategic partnership between both parties for leveraging the opportunities brought by the GBA initiative and the CM High Grounds Development Plans.
