PolyU welcomes Secretary for Health, Professor LO Chung-mau, on campus

The delegation, led by Prof. LO Chung-mau, Secretary for Health (6th from the right), visited PolyU yesterday, and was well received by PolyU Deputy Council Chairman Dr Lawrence LI (7th from the left), President Prof. Jin-Guang TENG (5th from the right), and our Central Management Team members.

Prof. LO Chung-mau (right) toured the Assistive Technology Laboratory, where Prof. Kenneth FONG (centre), Associate Head of Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, presented on the research innovation at PolyU. The PolyU Research Centre for Assistive Technology is the first research centre of its kind among Hong Kong's tertiary institutions. It aims to empower disabled individuals and the elderly through the implementation of cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions, and to foster an inclusive and accessible society for all.

Prof. Marco PANG (2nd from the left), Head of Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, along with Prof. Amy FU (3rd from the left), Associate Head of Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, shared with the delegation on the latest development of our Homantin campus. More top-notch research and clinical facilities will be housed at the new campus, enabling the University to nurture more professionals through advanced clinical practice, teaching, and research collaboration.


PolyU warmly welcomed Professor LO Chung-mau, BBS, JP, Secretary for Health, and a delegation of government officials from the Health Bureau to PolyU on 22 July. The delegates were well received by PolyU Council Chairman Dr LAM Tai-fai, Deputy Council Chairman Dr Lawrence LI, President Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, and members of our Central Management Team.

The delegation visited the laboratories and clinical facilities of our Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Optometry and School of Nursing, where the DeanProf. David SHUM, along with professors and researchers of our Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, introduced PolyU’s latest research innovations in healthcare. The visit concluded with an in-depth exchange with 12 students from various healthcare disciplines.

Prof. LO Chung-mau (right) learnt about the clinical facilities of the Optometry Clinic from Prof. Andrew LAM (left), Associate Head (Programmes and Clinical Training) of School of Optometry. The PolyU Optometry Clinic is known as the most well-equipped optometry clinic in Asia. Not only does it provide clinical training opportunities for senior undergraduates and support clinical vision and ophthalmology research, but it also offers guidance to the optometry industry in Hong Kong and China and provides eye care services to Hong Kong residents.

The delegation toured the Gerontological Nursing Laboratory and learnt about the latest research innovations from Prof. Justina LIU, Associate Head (Postgraduate Education) of School of Nursing. The Gerontological Nursing Laboratory provides a simulated environment in which students can experience age-related changes, assess the physical and psychosocial health of older people, and practise skills in gerontological nursing.

The 12 students came from various healthcare-related disciplines, including Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Optometry, Prosthetics & Orthotics, Speech Therapy, and Occupational Therapy.
