SUGA LAB
Suga Research Laboratory for Sustainable Urban Green Agriculture (信佳城市綠色耕種研究實驗室) is Hong Kong's first research platform on urban agriculture. With the use of innovative technologies, this laboratory aims to develop next generation of urban agriculture model for cultivating high quality and safe fruits and vegetables in small indoor spaces. Research will be conducted to explore the optimal environmental conditions for crop growth, as well as systematical assessment and comparison of food safety risk of harmful chemicals and food-borne bacteria found in vegetables grown from hydroponics and traditional farming.
PolyU – Yakult Joint Research Laboratory
PolyU received a generous donation of HK$ 2 million from Hong Kong Yakult Co. Ltd. (Yakult) to establish the “PolyU-Yakult Joint Research Laboratory for Probiotics and Prebiotics in Human Health”(香港理工大學 – 香港益力多 腸道益生菌益生元與人類健康聯合研究實驗室), which aims to pursue impactful and cutting-edge research in probiotics and prebiotics for the prevention and treatment of gut and brain diseases and eczema. Evidence-based research will form a basis to increase awareness and understanding amongst the public of probiotics and prebiotics and their intake for personal health, altogether contributing to Hong Kong, the nation and the world.
Sensory Evaluation Laboratory
As the University-owned Sensory Evaluation Laboratory (感官評估實驗室) in Hong Kong, it supports both qualitative and quantitative sensory analyses. The lab features individual tasting booths, controlled coloured lighting and computer software systems to cater for scientific and industry testing methods. The lab serves industry and academia partners. We welcome collaboration and provide professional service on study design, subject recruitment, data collection and analyses to support R&D, Sales, Marketing and Manufacturing.
Laboratory for Infant & Child Nutrition
Laboratory for Infant & Child Nutrition (嬰幼兒營養實驗室) : Located in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP), the 3,000 sq. ft. laboratory, established in 2013, is dedicated to infant and child nutrition research for local population. This lab features analysis instruments such as GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC-DAD and ICP-MS to examine macro and micro nutrients and trace metal profile in food samples and human samples such as blood and breastmilk. Our research team is studying nutrition profile of breastmilk and the impact of mother’s dietary pattern on the nutrition profile for Hong Kong mothers. Data collected is used for promotion of breastfeeding and facilitate good nutrition for both mother and child.
