Prof. Fu graduated in 1982 as a qualified physiotherapist and completed her master and doctorate studies in 1996 and 2003. She joined the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1994.
Prof. Fu involves in teaching, research and consultation in the area of musculoskeletal and sports, and is the programme coordinator for the psot-graduate programme in sports physiotherapy.
Prof. Fu’s research foci are on early detection, assessment and rehabilitation of musculotendinous problems so as to optimize movements and sports performance. Her research team develops new technologies for early detection of musculoskeletal problems across life span and activity levels from athletes to elderly. One of her current projects merges artificial intelligence with mobile app design for screening pre-clinical joint degeneration in community dwelling seniors so as to provide them with timely rehabilitation. Clinical research aside, her research team is also committed to study the mechanisms underpinning the clinical problems. The team uses state of the art approaches such as shearwave elastography, MRI and electromyography coupled with kinetic analysis to study the physical and biomechanical properties of muscles and tendons.
Prof. Fu continues to serve the China National Judo Team and the GuangDong Sports Trainng Centre. She is also appointed as Medical Advisor for The Judo Association of Hong Kong and the Korfball Association of Hong Kong. In addition, She is the Clinic Director of the Rehabilitation Clinic of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
