Research and Innovation

The world's blockchain markets have a substantial growth in recent years, and there is an increasing interest in cryptocurrency, an encrypted medium of digital currency exchange. Monash University and a leading Fintech company Collinstar Capital have forged a multimillion-dollar (AUD) deal to establish the blockchain cryptocurrency Hcash as a virtual cryptocurrency exchange.
The collaboration between universities and Collinstar Capital will see a joint blockchain cryptocurrency research and development lab open at Monash’s Clayton campus and a node at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Hong Kong being the mid-point between Australia and  Greater China privacy of crypto currencies, is serving as the bridge to lead in this digital transformation and innovation. “We would like to see our joint work to leave a trackable chain of innovations to change our way of doing business and the way we live our lives – We can foresee that in the not so distance future, boundaries of countries and regions will be removed as one world village, at least in the digital world.” said Prof. Lu Qin, Interim Head from the Department of Computing, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Monash Associate Professor Carsten Rudolph says the new lab will build practical blockchain-based solutions with rigorous security that can be applied to digital currencies, digital health and other applications.  “The company is attracted to this partnership as the research involved so far formed the foundation of one of the largest cryptocurrencies in the world, Monero." said Jacob Cheng, Managing partner of Collinstar Capital.
