Biography
Dr James Chung-wai CHEUNG is a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). After obtaining his PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering at PolyU, he had received postdoctoral training at the Department of Health Technology and Informatics, Interdisciplinary Division of Biomedical Engineering and Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub.
Dr Cheung is passionate in researching on 3D ultrasound imaging, medical imaging, wearable device technologies and gerontechnology. Acknowledging the global rising trend of ageing population, Dr Cheung shifts his research and project developments to the aforementioned areas with applying deep learning and virtual reality technologies. He has joined several projects and produced several patents such as NLP-based therapeutic dolls for elderly dementia, the development of IoT sensors monitoring and classifying elderly behaviors in hostels. Apart from the innovations, Dr Cheung engages in teaching undergraduate subjects related to service learning towards older adults, technologies for smart ageing in PolyU, nurturing future talents in the research and development of technological innovations in ageing.
