Biography

Prof. Annie LEONG is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). After obtaining her PhD degree from PolyU in 2016, she received postdoctoral training at the La Trobe University and the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). As a Research Assistant Professor at CUHK from 2018 to 2021, she was committed in teaching and research on sports science and rehabilitation.

Prof. Leong has the research interest of investigating shoulder pain and dysfunction, which is a common challenge faced by older adults in Hong Kong. Her works related to shoulder pain have been published in journals including Musculoskeletal Science & PracticePLOS One and Journal of Orthopaedic Translation. Besides, she has conducted a research project which addresses the cognitive decline in elderlies with chronic shoulder pain by investigating the feasibility of developing a combined exercise and cognitive-motor dual task training programme.

Prof. Leong believes that RISA can act as a platform to foster interdisciplinary research of developing new technology, i.e. 3D ultrasound imaging for the early screening for shoulder disorders. Besides, she hopes to contribute her expertise in studying shoulder pain to the research area of Smart Health in RISA, facilitating knowledge transfer and advancement.
