Prof. David NAVARRO-ALARCON

Biography

Prof. David NAVARRO-ALARCON is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Principal Investigator of the Robotics and Machine Intelligence Laboratory (ROMI-Lab). He obtained his PhD in Mechanical and Automation Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), under the mentorship of the world-renowned scholar, Prof. Yun-hui LIU. During his time at CUHK, he was awarded the prestigious CONACYT Fellowship. He previously worked at the CUHK T Stone Robotics Institute as a Postdoctoral Fellow and later as a Research Assistant Professor from 2014 to 2017.

Prof. Navarro-Alarcon's primary research focuses on the modeling and control of robotic motion tasks. His work on sensor-based robotics has been supported by competitive grants from government agencies, corporations, and universities. Additionally, he leverages his expertise in robotics to advance research in ultrasound imaging, providing valuable insights into scoliosis assessment. His research has been published in international journals such as the IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters and the International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer-Assisted Surgery. Prof. Navarro-Alarcon is also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Robotics (T-RO).
