Biography

Prof. Saran Si CHEN is a linguist and a statistician who works on statistical modeling of speech production, perception and their relationship, also the applications in speech training and speech therapy. She obtained the Master of Arts in Linguistics degree, Master of Science in Statistics degree and PhD degree in Linguistics from the University of Florida. In 2015, She joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Chinese Linguistics and Bilingual Studies and was later promoted to the Assistant Professor.

Prof. Chen has secured competitive grants from the Research Grant Council, Education Bureau, the Advanced Research Projects Agency and the Innovation and Technology Fund for Better Living. She had also published and shared her works at the International Congress of Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. By joining RISA, Prof. Chen endeavors to conduct interdisciplinary studies related to ageing, contribute and foster knowledge on developing robotic techniques and treatments for ageing patients suffering from strokes and depression.
