Sports fans, athletes and coaches have always been looking for ways to enhance their sports experience and sports performance while people with sedentary lifestyle, disability, and health issue as well as the elderly need motivations and assistants for sports and exercise engagement. Advanced functional sportswear and equipment as well as interactive and intriguing tools or services not only enhance athletic performance and sports experience but also empower public engagement and interests in sports.
The Research Institute for Sports Science and Technology (RISports) was established on 1 Jun 2022 to address these emerging societal needs in sports research and technology. RISports will integrate multi-disciplinary experts from PolyU and around the world to deliver advanced scientific and engineering solutions for sports. The translational research of RISports in sports will adopt a consumer-centric or athlete-centric approach to ensure its research directions and deliverables are relevant and impactful to both sports participants and practitioners by fostering its research applications and services through close collaborations with Hong Kong and National sports institutes, sports related industries, government bodies, and non-government organizations.
