蕭博士為職業治療師，主要研究心理健康及康復輔導。他分別獲得保健管理和研究碩士、應用統計碩士和社會福利博士學位。其後他又接受過輔導、家庭治療、職業評估和康復方面的專業訓練。蕭博士教授之科目有康復心理學、輔導技巧、精神病康復、職業康復、心理測量、研究及統計方法等課程。他的研究領域包括慢性病的自我管理、開發康復成效測量方法、評估及訓練各種社會問題解決方法，以及青年人正面發展計畫等。
