边慧敏博士于80年代末毕业于香港理工学院(现为香港理工大学)，并成为物理治疗师。随后于澳洲珀斯科廷理工大学攻读深造文凭及理学硕士学位课程，并分别于1994年及1996年修毕课程，成为儿科专科物理治疗师。边博士再于2009年在墨尔本大学修毕博士学位课程。边博士在儿科神经康复方面具丰富的临床经验。过去20年，边博士除不断进修外，亦在香港、英国及澳洲从事儿科专科物理治疗的工作。她在澳洲的工作经验，更遍及多个城市及郊区的医院与社区。边博士曾在国际期刊发表多份关于发展医学及脑性麻痺的研究文章，其中五份博士研究文章便是集中探讨早产婴儿的纵贯性动作发展。
