邊慧敏博士於80年代末畢業於香港理工學院(現為香港理工大學)，並成為物理治療師。隨後於澳洲珀斯科廷理工大學攻讀深造文憑及理學碩士學位課程，並分別於1994年及1996年修畢課程，成為兒科專科物理治療師。邊博士再於2009年在墨爾本大學修畢博士學位課程。邊博士在兒科神經康復方面具豐富的臨床經驗。過去20年，邊博士除不斷進修外，亦在香港、英國及澳洲從事兒科專科物理治療的工作。她在澳洲的工作經驗，更遍及多個城市及郊區的醫院與社區。邊博士曾在國際期刊發表多份關於發展醫學及腦性麻痺的研究文章，其中五份博士研究文章便是集中探討早產嬰兒的縱貫性動作發展。
