Introduction In this book, Phoebe Lin offers a new perspective on formulaic language, arguing that while past research often treats formulaic language as a lexical phenomenon, the phonological aspect of it is a more fundamental facet. She presents three empirical studies which examine the intonation and temporal and stress patterns of spoken formulaic language. The work addresses questions about the nature and identification of formulaic language in naturally occurring speech and sheds new light on English Language Teaching and automatic speech syntheseis.
