The Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Smart Cities Research Institute (SCRI) and the International Society for Urban Informatics (ISUI) successfully co-organised the “Global Smart Cities Summit and 3rd International Conference on Urban Informatics” (GSCS & ICUI 2023), 20–23 August 2023 on the PolyU campus. Held biennially since 2017, the GSCS & ICUI 2023 is one of the largest and most prestigious events in the world for promoting innovations and inventions related to smart cities technologies.
This year, the summit and conference attracted over 500 participants from more than 21 countries and regions joining in person. The opening ceremony of the event was also broadcasted live on multiple social media platforms and was viewed by an online audience of over 85,000.
The four-day event featured a line-up of distinguished keynote speakers, including Prof. Michael BATTY from University College London, UK; Prof. GONG Jianya from Wuhan University, China; Prof. Michael F. GOODCHILD from the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA; Prof. GUO Renzhong from Shenzhen University, China; Prof. JIN Ying, from the University of Cambridge, UK; and Prof. Anthony G. O. YEH from the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR. It also included parallel sessions on various conference topics, a technology innovation exhibition, laboratory visit, local tour and banquet. At the closing ceremony, the “Smart City Technology Innovation Award” and the “Best Conference Paper Award” were presented to impactful, innovative projects and/or products in the field, and outstanding papers, respectively. Full papers of the award-winning entries may have the opportunity to be published in Urban Informatics, an international, open-access, peer-reviewed journal of the ISUI.
