Outstanding Alumni Award recipients announced

Prof. Siu-Chee Sophia Chan has been selected to receive the Outstanding Alumni Award in Professional Achievement, and Mr Man-nok Chan, the Outstanding Young Alumni Award in Professional Achievement of PolyU’s School of Nursing. They will be nominated for the Outstanding Alumni Award at the faculty and university level.  

Prof. Siu-chee Sophia Chan, is currently Professor in Nursing and Senior Advisor to the President’s Office at the University of Hong Kong. She was appointed by the Hong Kong Government as Under Secretary for Food and Health from 2012-2017, and Secretary for Food and Health from 2017-2022. She was the first nurse appointed in this ministerial position. Prof. Chan completed the Post-registration Diploma in Health Care Education (Nursing) programme at PolyU.  

Mr Man-nok Chan is currently Manager (Nursing)/Chief Nursing Officer of the Nursing Services Department, Hospital Authority Head Office. He completed the Higher Diploma in Nursing in 2005 and the BSc (Hons) in Nursing programme in 2007.

The Alumni Association of Nursing Studies (AANS) organised the 3rd Clinical Bridging Workshop on 18 February. Fourteen final-year students from the BSc in Nursing and MSc in Nursing programmes participated in the workshop as case nurses in the scenarios. The participants reinforced their clinical skills including blood product transfusion, medication reconstitution and laboratory result interpretation.

Around 30 participants (including alumni and current students) attended the seminar organised by the AANS titled “The role of nurses in End-of-Life care” on 22 March.
