Cooperative Project - Caritas Tin Shui Wai
Caritas Integrated Family Service Centre - Tin Shui Wai
Design Brief
Caritas Integrated Family Service Centre – Tin Shui Wai (Caritas – TSW) was founded in July 1953 by the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong. Its primary purpose was to offer relief and rehabilitation services to people in poverty and distress, while the Caritas Family Service Department is focused on the needs of families within local communities.
Social services organisations were previously mistaken as being places for only older generations and people in poverty and as offering nothing of interest for other people. Therefore, Caritas – TSW wanted their services to be recognised by the younger generation and thus wished to refresh their promotion materials to have an image or style that could be easily adapted to appeal to a young audience. In addition, they wanted short animations featuring their character icon, “Tinjai天仔”, to introduce the five love languages to their service users.
Design Outcome
The student creators were tasked with making a map that could be hung in the central corridor of Caritas – TSW to showcase Tin Shui Wai, the centre’s mascot “Tinjai天仔”, and the service areas of the centre.
The students who worked on this project also created a promotional video that tells the story of “Tinjai天仔” and “Yumtinjai陰天仔” to promote the centre’s activities and emphasise the importance of self-care and self-love. Moreover, they produced short videos to explain the concepts of the five love languages, which are “Words of Affirmation”, “Quality Time”, “Gifts”, “Acts of Service”, and “Physical Touch”.
Most of the design concepts generated by the student creators were licensed to Caritas – TSW in 2024.
