Discipline: Environment and Interior Design
Student: LEUNG Ting Fong (Flora)
Internship Company: Plaap Design Limited, Hong Kong
“I now have better all-around design abilities, feel at ease using a variety of design software, and have practical experience working in a really cool space.” – Flora LEUNG
Flora expected that her internship would give her additional hands-on experience, enable her to learn design techniques and about software tools, provide opportunities for on-site studies, and allow her to seek guidance from experienced professionals. She was pleased to discover that she was able to achieve most of her goals while working at Plaap Design Limited, which primarily focuses on small and medium-sized restaurant design and renovation.
Learning Goals and Outcomes
Flora worked on Pret a Manger store design during her internship. She was also involved in site visits to Chi Cha Sam Chen at IFC Mall and Maria Bakery in Central, and she performed site measurements for ISA in Central. Additionally, she devised a concept proposal for attracting additional collaborators and worked on logo design.
Internship Outputs and Amazing Experiences
Flora found that the site visits were the most interesting aspect of her internship. During these visits, she discovered the importance of communicating effectively with contractors and suppliers to address any issues promptly and thereby achieve the desired outcomes.
Furthermore, Flora took pride in being able to share some of her design skills with her colleagues and learn about new design software. Flora’s workplace supervisor commended her excellent software skills and ability to assist with projects. The supervisor also described she as punctual, hard-working, and cooperative and was confident that she would excel in her future career with increased exposure to real-life work experience.
