PolyU Design is dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research to address societal challenges and enhance the social environment. Dr Brian Lee and Dr Aria Yang collaborated with other members from different PolyU schools and faculties to introduce a resident-centric "Well-being Design Guide” for The Housing Bureau and the Hong Kong Housing Authority.
This collaboration aims to assess the impact of public housing design on residents' subjective well-being. Dr Lee specialises in service innovation, while Dr Yang focuses on housing innovation. Together with the research team, they have developed a comprehensive framework. The guide is structured around 8 key Well-Being Concepts: Healthy and Vitality, Green Living and Sustainability, Age-friendliness, Intergenerational and Inclusive Living, Family and Community Connection, Urban Integration, Upward Mobility, and Perception and Image.
This interdisciplinary research project holds significant importance as it is poised to influence public housing policies, thereby improving the quality of public housing beyond mere quantity. It is also expected to impact the evaluation criteria for vendors bidding on public housing projects in the future.
