Biography

Prof. Gianluca Goffi joined the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an Assistant Professor in March 2025. His research primarily focuses on sustainable tourism, destination competitiveness, tourism governance, and tourist behaviour. He has also conducted extensive research in regional economics and labour economics. His work has been published in leading international journals and he has authored several books on destination management, regional development, and labour market dynamics.

Before joining SHTM, Gianluca worked for 20 years as an economic analyst for the regional government of Marche, Italy, where he developed numerous technical reports and policy analyses. He also held postdoctoral research positions at Marche Polytechnic University, the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research includes multiple case studies in developing countries and emerging economies, offering valuable insights into sustainability and economic development. His work aims to provide actionable insights for policymakers, businesses, and destinations, advocating for a holistic and integrated approach to sustainability.
