The School of Hotel and Tourism Management's (SHTM) MicroMasters programme in International Hospitality Management (IHM) aims to bridge the knowledge gap between the workplace and higher education. It is the first online hospitality and tourism MicroMasters programme in the world and provides learners with a strong foundation in managing high-quality businesses globally. It also aids in career advancement and serves as a pathway to an accelerated on-campus programme. All course content in the MicroMasters programme, including lecture videos, reading materials and course activities, is entirely free! Anyone who is interested in hospitality and tourism can join and study at their own pace! As of Nov 2024, the MicroMasters programme has attracted over 116,000 participants from 236 countries and regions, including North Korea, Afghanistan etc.
The MicroMasters programme comprises four courses. Learners who complete the MicroMasters programme and gain the credential could apply for PolyU SHTM's on-campus Master of Science programmes. Once admitted, learners can transfer 9 of the 31 credits required to complete the full Master's degree. This MicroMasters programme is a flexible and modular credential suited for the digital age. It serves as valuable academic currency in today's world of continuous, lifelong learning. It also plays a crucial role in an inverted admissions process, allowing learners worldwide to engage in master' s-level coursework before committing to the considerable time and financial investment required for Master's degree programmes.
