Biography
Dr. Naomi Takemura is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She received her Bachelor of Nursing degree with First Class Honors in 2015 and her PhD with the highest outstanding ranking in 2022, both from The University of Hong Kong. Following her BNurs graduation, Dr. Takemura worked as a clinical nurse for three years, during which she gained invaluable clinical experience that inspired and strengthened her desire to pursue a research career.
Dr. Takemura’s research work is in the area of non-pharmacological and behavioral medicine interventions, with a special focus on patients with advanced cancer. She has accomplished a large-scale randomized controlled trial comparing the effectiveness of aerobic exercise and Tai Chi on improving multiple bio-physio-psychological outcomes in patients with advanced lung cancer. The research findings have been published in leading international journal, JAMA Oncology and have garnered extensive media coverage. Dr. Takemura has successfully secured several competitive external grants, including Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) and the Nethersole Institute of Continuing Holistic Health Education (NICHE) Research Grant.
Dr. Takemura's dedication to cancer research has been recognized with several international conference awards, and she was offered the prestigious MASCC Exercise Oncology Fellowship. Notably, she was appointed as a Visiting Research Associate at the Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative Care, King's College London. Dr. Takemura has published more than 35 articles in esteemed international peer-reviewed journals, including JAMA Oncology, the International Journal of Nursing Studies, Sleep Medicine Reviews, and the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management. She has also served as an Editorial Board Member for BMC Nursing and Scientific Reports, both of which are Q1 journals in their respective categories.
