Dr Lin Yang, Associate Professor, was interviewed by 21st Century Business Herald (21世紀經濟報導). She talked about the high COVID-19 death rate from nursing homes during the fifth wave of the epidemic in Hong Kong and suggested preventive measures for high-risk groups.

The 26th East Asian Forum of Nursing Scholars (EAFONS) was held at Tokyo, Japan. Our PhD student Mr Wilson Kwok (Supervisor: Frances Wong; Co-supervisor: Dr Arkers Wong, Assistant Professor), Dr Eva Ho and Dr Grace Xie, Associate Professors, and Ms Annie Yip (Senior Clinical Associate) gave oral presentations and other colleagues gave poster presentations. Dr Kin Cheung was one of the Executive Committee members of EAFONS.

Funded by the Tobacco and Alcohol Control Office, the Department of Health, Dr Katherine Lam, Research Assistant Professor; Dr Eva Ho, Assistant Professor (both are Co-Pincipal Investigators of the project); and the team^ carried out a project to develop an online training course on motivational interviewing for smoking cessation. Motivational interviewing is proven effective for smoking cessation. The course is designed for local healthcare professionals and in both English and Chinese to address the needs of the Chinese-speaking population in the region. Course participants can gain CNE/CME points after completion of the course.

Prof. Frances Wong [Chair Professor of Advanced Nursing Practice & Associate Dean (FHSS)], Prof. David Shum, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences (FHSS), and the representatives of FHSS’s constituent departments/schools, SN colleagues, together with a group of nursing students visited the Legislative Council and met with Dr David Lam, (5th from right) the Legislative Councillor representing the functional constituency of medical and health services. The PolyU team engaged in a dialogue with the Legislative Councillor in deliberating the current health policy issues.

The School partnered with the School of Graduate Studies of Lingnan University to organise the Postgraduate Conference on Interdisciplinary Learning, themed Intersections of Research, Society and Postgraduate Education. Prof. Angela Leung, Dr Kin Cheung; Dr Eileen Cheng, Dr Winsome Lam & Dr Vivian Hui, Assistant Professors; and Dr Betty Chung, Teaching Fellow chaired the parallel sessions. Our PhD students, Ms Adwoa Owusuaa Koduah and Mr Wilson Kwok, took up the roles as masters of ceremonies for the conference.

Dr Daphne Cheung, Associate Professor, and her team showcased the Standalone Therapeutic Music-With-Movement Programme for older adults with cognitive impairment at the the InnoEX, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

At the RTHK Radio 1’s programme Letter to Hong Kong (香港家書) Prof. Frances Wong shared her view on the development of nurse specialist pathway at the primary healthcare level and spoke about her suggestion of allowing a statutory body, such as the Nursing Council of Hong Kong, to monitor the qualities of non-local trained nurses, in response to the recent proposal of non-locally trained nurses registered in Hong Kong.

Information seminar for the MSc in Nursing programme was held. Dr Vivian Ngai, the programme leader (Associate Professor) and Dr Betty Chung, Deputy Programme Leader (Teaching Fellow) introduced the programme to about 20 prospective students.
