Student Message

“Studying at #PolyUSHTM has been one of the most rewarding decisions of my career”, says Ms Egoavil Morales.

Ms Egoavil Morales’ interest in our School dates back to 2016, when Dean Kaye Chon visited her university in Peru, “I vividly recall feeling inspired by his speech, and from that moment on, I knew I wanted to pursue my Master's degree in Hong Kong".

“The School not only met my expectations but exceeded them”, shares Ms Egoavil Morales. “The exceptional professors enriched my learning experience, and the numerous opportunities to engage with industry leaders during classes and student club activities were invaluable”.

"#PolyUSHTM has broadened my horizons, and I look forward to seeing what else I can achieve with the support and guidance of this prestigious institution".

Cristal Roxana EGOAVIL MORALES (MSc in International Hospitality Management)

Having worked in the hospitality industry for over 8 years, Mr Li was initially “hesitant” about “taking a gap year to pursue my academic goal at this age” as it could be seen as “challenging”.

“Once I was admitted to #IHM”, he shares, “I was impressed by what the programme had to offer. I was exposed not only to academic opportunities but also to different networking opportunities". As a student representative of the programme, he acknowledged the privilege of “becoming a bridge between #PolyUSHTM and all MSc students”.

“I am confident that this experience will be very valuable for my future career adventure”, says Mr Li.

Henry LI (MSc in International Hospitality Management)

“Being a #PolyUSHTM student is a pleasure”, shares Ms Sui, as she has “benefited greatly from my studies and life” at the SHTM, this world-leading school. She not only appreciated the fact that the teachers impart “academic knowledge” but also invite industry experts as guest speakers “to share their experiences”, allowing students to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Furthermore, SHTM students benefit from an unparalleled "international perspective”. Ms Sui had the wonderful opportunity to represent #PolyUSHTM to participate in the MENA CLIMATE WEEK in Saudi Arabia, where she “learnt a lot about sustainable tourism from friends from all over the world”.

Sunny SUI (MSc in International Tourism and Convention Management)

As a Master’s student in #ITCM, “I am honoured to be part of the SHTM family” says Ms Tan. “This year at #PolyUSHTM was a transformative experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life".

“The teaching style here differs greatly from that in mainland China”, according to Ms Tan, as it emphasises “group cooperation and discussion”, which enhances critical thinking and fosters close collaboration among classmates. She also highlighted her appreciation for the #PolyUSHTM faculty members who are “very engaged, incorporating real-life cases into the lessons and encouraging interactive learning”.

Ms Tan appreciated the various opportunities offered by #PolyUSHTM, including joining student clubs such as the Club Managers’ Association and career development opportunities. She considers her time at the SHTM to have been “invaluable in terms of both academic and personal growth”.

Lishan TAN

"Enrolling in #IWM was a life-changing decision for me”, shares Mr Lee. “As a professional working in the financial industry, I was seeking a career change that would align with my passion for wine. The curriculum, which is a unique blend of business and viticulture, taught by experienced staff, appealed to me as it promised a holistic understanding of the industry. #PolyUSHTM offers numerous opportunities, including a wine business case competition, residential study trips to France and a mentorship programme, all of which are unique and fruitful. Switching from numbers to vines not only ignited my enthusiasm but also broadened my career prospects”.

“The knowledge and industry connections provided by #PolyUSHTM have been invaluable”, says Mr Lee. “This programme isn't just about wine; it's a gateway to a dynamic career that merges my financial background with the artistry of winemaking”.

Jeff LEE (MSc in International Wine Management)

“I found Hong Kong very attractive because it is known for its vibrant multicultural environment”, shares Mr Favreau. “As a massive melting pot of cultures, languages and cuisines”, he continues, Hong Kong is “the perfect spot for curious people eager to learn and grow”. Its “position as a global hub for finance and trade, tourism and hospitality first attracted me. Today, it is the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, an excellent educational institution and leader in hospitality and tourism education at the international level, that pushes me to quench my thirst of knowledge”.

“I like the #PolyUSHTM philosophy as it emphasises practical learning experiences to prepare students for real-world challenges”, remarks Mr Favreau. Having enrolled in #IWM “in a spirit of curiosity and to challenge myself”, he was impressed by his interactive learning experiences, so much so that “being a student at #PolyUSHTM is an important experience I cherish”.

Stéphane Claude Philippe FAVREAU (MSc in International Wine Management)

“After working in the Chinese wine industry for two years, I realised that professional wine knowledge and advanced marketing skills were necessary for my career”, says Ms Zhang. Having heard about the programme from #PolyUSHTM Professor of Practice Jeannie Cho Lee who is also a Master of Wine, Ms Zhang praises #IWM “as the best wine programme in Asia” with “systematic winemaking, marketing and branding classes taught by professors and industry leaders”.

Ms Zhang is honoured to have represented #PolyUSHTM to participate in the 2023 Intercollegiate Wine Business Invitational (IWBI) wine business plan development competition alongside outstanding partners. “Designing my own wine brand has always been one of my dreams”. With the guidance of #PolyUSHTM Dr Shi, “the competition gave our team a stage to share our business plan and compete with groups from around the world” and “proudly win the grand prize”.
