Mr Ellis Chan Ka-yin, a Hong Kong animation director based in Barcelona, won the Best Animated Short Film Award at the Golden Horse Film Festival 2024 for his animation "Monsoon Blue", co-directed with another PolyU alumnus. The film is praised for its skilled editing rhythm, lively character performances, distinct narrative techniques, and the symbolic use of goldfish to reflect on current challenges and reminisce about past beauty. It showcases remarkable creative potential and is hailed as a bold masterpiece. "Monsoon Blue" has also received other honours, including the Grand Prize at the 25th DigiCon6 ASIA Awards, the Best Animated Short Film Award at the Kuandu International Animation Festival 2023, and the Gold Award at the 10th Animation Support Program.
