Dr Liu Liang, Member of the Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Things (RIAIoT), and his collaborators from the Chinese Academy of Sciences won the Best Student Paper Award at the 2022 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP).
The team solved the joint beamforming and quantisation problem in the cooperative cellular network, where multiple relay-like base stations are connected to a central processor via rate-limited fronthaul links cooperatively to serve users. The problem was known to cause a reduction of total transmission power. To address this issue, the team first demonstrated that there is no duality gap between the considered problem and its Lagrangian dual by demonstrating the tightness of the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) of the considered problem. They then proposed an algorithm which efficiently considers the conditions of the signalling problem and finds a solution to reduce transmission loss.
Organised by the IEEE Signal Processing Society, ICASSP is an annual flagship conference which focuses on signal processing techniques in areas such as communications, image processing and artificial intelligence.
