Su Shan is a PhD candidate with an interest in knee osteoarthritis. She decided to study for a PhD at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University because of its outstanding teaching quality and excellent laboratories. Her research focuses on the effectiveness of exercise in improving the physical function of people with knee osteoarthritis. A cross-sectional study has been conducted to analyse functional deteriorations caused by knee osteoarthritis. Further trials will be conducted to detect the effectiveness of exercise in alleviating functional deteriorations in knee osteoarthritis. She hopes these studies could help to apply exercise therapy, a non-invasive treatment, to knee osteoarthritis so as to relieve the symptoms and improve the physical functions of community elders.
Su Shan received her BSc degree in rehabilitation therapy from the Southern Medical University in mainland China. She subsequently held a position as a rehabilitation therapist at the West China Hospital and Nanshan Hospital. She later received her MSc degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and was afterward recruited as a research assistant at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
