The Working Group on Innovative Learning Spaces (WGILS) was formed in August 2013. The WGILS is committed to enhance the learning environment at PolyU. To meet the evolving teaching and learning needs, the WGILS developed a 10-year revitalization plan, with the support of Campus Development Office, Facilities Management Office, and Information Technology Services Office, to upgrade all existing lecture theatres/classrooms. Refitted and new spaces feature modern, comfortable, user-friendly, and interactive environment with movable furniture, extensive writing surfaces, enhanced acoustics, and upgraded technologies. The WGILS also initiated orientation workshops and experiential teaching and learning projects in newly renovated classrooms. Ongoing evaluation studies have been launched to obtain user feedback, engage the campus community, fine-tune new and newly renovated spaces, and reimagine future learning environment.
Roles of the WGILS

To formulate the implementation plan for revitalization of general learning spaces in PolyU for the next 10 years.

To review, update and promulgate the design standards for learning spaces (including general and specialist teaching rooms and laboratories) to address the current and future learning and teaching needs of the University.

To review and approve the detailed design of classrooms under renovation.

To solicit change ideas and initiate pilot studies (funded by the PolyU strategic plan fund) on the functionality and feasibility of different designs of facilities and environment on campus.

To monitor progress of the pilot studies and evaluate their outcomes.

To recommend to the DP and Provost infrastructure, architectural and technological requirements for renovation of existing learning spaces and/or construction of new learning spaces to support blended elearning and other innovative pedagogies.

To provide users' requirement specifications to support development and upgrade initiatives and to ensure participation by staff and students in the development of learning facilities.

To act as a reference group, as required, to substantiate development or improvement proposals put forward by various interest groups.
