Background
The implementation of the Learning to Learn framework for undergraduate programmes has begun. At present, a pilot study involving Freshman Seminar teachers and students of 3 Faculties. A research consortium composed of senior academics in relevant areas has been set up to conduct research studies on this topic.
It is opportune time to set up a CoP to support the implementation of the Learning to Learn framework by creating a share-and-learn-together platform to engage more frontline teachers from more Faculties and Schools in brainstorming and experimentation of ideas and action research to build up their knowledge base and capacity to develop better learners through the learning to learn element.
We anticipate this CoP will raise colleagues’ interests in and awareness of this important attribute through discussions and activities. This CoP will also create dialogues and interactions between staff and students, and engage them in various stages of the processes of curriculum and pedagogical designs to develop students to become better learners. By engaging students in these processes, an opportunity can be created for teachers and students to co-build a suitable environment for self-directed learning and effective learning. This kind of learning environment will help students build their confidence and competence to pave their way to achieve their personal aspirations and goals. Successful cases and success stories will be collected and documented systematically for adaptation and a wide dissemination of good practice.
We expect that teachers and students of the designated subjects, such as Freshman Seminar and Capstone or Final Year Project as proposed in the Learning to Learn framework, will benefit the most from this CoP. Certainly, our activities will also benefit teachers of other subjects who want to develop students to become better learners.
