Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Shipping Technology and Management (1998)

Upon graduating from PolyU in 1998, Mr Law Lap-keung joined Orient Overseas Container Line Co. Ltd. as a deck cadet and has worked his way up to be a qualified Master Mariner within ten years. Driven by a passion for public service, his eagerness to contribute to the Nation, and his zeal to pursue sustainable development in ports and the shipping industry, Mr Law joined the Marine Department of the HKSAR Government in 2008. Since then, he has been promoted from Marine Officer to Assistant Director, now overseeing large-scale projects and port operations, as well as the formulation of new plans for port optimisation, personnel training and further education. Amid the pandemic, Mr Law closely monitored the movement of waterways, coordinated the operation of ports, and oversaw epidemic prevention measures and the supply of materials at various terminals. Thanks to his efforts, Hong Kong was able to maintain the supply of essential goods against all odds. Mr Law has developed a strong affinity with his alma mater and is regularly engaged in events hosted by his department, taking the opportunities to promote the promising prospect of the shipping industry.
