The 2nd Alumni Affairs Development Roundtable Meeting 2019 cum Dinner with President Jin-Guang Teng

On 21 December 2019, the second PolyU Alumni Affairs Development Roundtable Meeting was held in Beijing. President Professor Jin-Guang Teng and Executive Vice President Dr Miranda Lou, together with 20 alumni leaders from all six mainland alumni networks, attended the meeting to explore the development of alumni affairs in the coming year. President Teng shared the latest situation on campus and the restoration plan. Dr Lou sincerely thanked the Pearl River Delta Alumni Network for their generous support and assistance in providing arrival and accommodation services for more than 300 PolyU Mainland students who left Hong Kong for Shenzhen during the emergency period in mid-November. All alumni leaders have expressed their goodwill to help  rebuild PolyU’s reputation. They actively shared views on and insights into how alumni networks could contribute to the restoration, support student development and strengthen the bond of the PolyU alumni family. Together with Dr Lou and supported by PolyU Beijing Alumni Network, President Teng also met with 70 mainland alumni in the evening to share first-hand information about  PolyU’s recent situation. It was not just a good opportunity for networking and exchange for PolyU alumni, but also an embodiment of alumni support for the University’s development.

Communication Session for Alumni Leaders

On 17 December 2019, Council Chairman and Senior Management of PolyU hosted a communication session to share with alumni leaders the latest situation on PolyU campus and the restoration plan. The event was attended by 63 alumni including the Board of the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations, Board of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association, representatives from alumni associations as well as Alumni Ambassadors. They were pleased to exchange comments and suggestions with the panel members including Dr Lam Tai-fai, Council Chairman, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President, Prof. Philip C. H. Chan, Deputy President and Provost, Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President and Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Student Affairs). The Panel Members appreciated the care and support from the alumni leaders as well as their constructive ideas on how to bring PolyU back on track and rebuild the confidence and reputation. They encouraged the alumni community to help explain the situation, clarify the myth and actively support the restoration initiatives to help rebuild the University.

“Gathering with Zhe-Li Friends 2019 ” - Visit to Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City

On 23 November 2019, with the support of alumni Xu Jin, Management Committee of Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City, and alumni Wang Zhifeng, the ZhejiangU-PolyU Joint Centre Alumni Network organised a study tour to the Future Sci-Tech City. The activity received overwhelming responses from the alumni and seats were filled in seconds!  The participating alumni had travelled from Shenzhen, Shanghai, Ningbo and Wenzhou. They visited the Haichuang Garden, Ali Future Hotel, Artificial Intelligence Town, 5G Innovation Centre, Academic Exchange Centre and Dream Town, with much exchanges and innovative ideas. The alumni were given a detailed account of the policy support given by the Government and the development of enterprises in the Sci-Tech City. They had a chance to understand the city’s trend of science and technology development and future business opportunities.

Xiong’an New Area Study Tour

Coordinated by the PolyU Pearl River Delta Alumni Network with the five other PolyU mainland alumni networks, the Xiong'an New Area Study Tour was held on 19-23 November 2019 with much support from members of PolyU mainland alumni networks. The study tour covered a visit to the Xiong'an Service Centre - Xiong'an Planning Exhibition Hall, and a meeting with Government representatives to explore Xiong'an's development plan and opportunities for future cooperation. The delegation also attended the "2nd Hebei International Industrial Design Week" and had in-depth exchanges in the areas of innovative design, smart cities and artificial intelligence.

Dinner with President Jin-Guang Teng

On 19 September 2019, President Professor Jin-Guang Teng met with 100 PolyU research graduates, research assistants and alumni in Shanghai. Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President, joined President Teng in welcoming the alumni at the dinner. The atmosphere of the event was relaxed and ebullient. President Teng shared with alumni the latest achievements of PolyU and expressed his wish to see PolyU becoming a world-class research university devoted to emerging technologies, e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, Additive Manufacturing, New Materials and Biotechnology, etc. President Teng is committed to leading PolyU as a university that advances and transfers knowledge, and provides the best holistic education for the benefit of Hong Kong, the nation and the world. It was an enjoyable and unforgettable evening for everyone. Besides being a good opportunity for networking and exchange for PolyU alumni and friends, it embodied alumni support for the development of the University.

MEET and DRINK – FB alumni

The "Meet and Drink" for graduates of the Faculty of Business (FB) was successfully held on 18 September 2019 at the Alumni Atrium. A packed of over 110 alumni attended the event. The participants were warmly welcomed by Ms Belinda Chow, Director of Alumni Affairs and Development and Ir Prof. Edwin Cheng, Dean of Faculty of Business. Prof. Cheng introduced the latest development and initiatives in the pursuit of IDEAS (Innovation-driven Education and Scholarship). The graduates were delighted to meet with the faculty members from Accounting & Finance, Logistics & Maritime Studies and Management & Marketing, as well as the recipients of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Awards, including Dr Hubert Chan Chung-yee, Mr Dennis Ho Chiu-ping, Mr Joseph Lo Kin-ching and Mr Richard Sun Po-yuen. Located in Core A on PolyU campus, the Alumni Atrium is a convenient and versatile venue for exchange and networking.
