Vision and Objectives

Department of Applied Mathematics is a vibrant and diverse department that offers a broad range of academic programmes as well as a wide breadth of exciting research.

As one of the three departments in the Faculty of Science, we offer a broad range of academic programmes in Applied Mathematics and supervise research student. In addition, we provide courses to various departments and faculties across the University, through service teaching.

Mission

Our mission is to facilitate learning through excellent teaching and research in Applied Mathematics with leading expertise in optimization, optimal control, computational mathematics, applied statistics and actuarial science, financial mathematics and engineering mathematics.

Objectives

Teaching

• Provide quality teaching
• Administer undergraduate, taught and research postgraduate programmes in Applied Mathematics
• Prepare students with sound mathematical, analytical and communication skills for different employment niches

Research

• Become a major centre of excellence in applied mathematics in Hong Kong
• Provide students with opportunities for original research and scholarship
• Strengthen and promote joint research among departments of the University
