World Leading Research and Top Global Rankings

AMA is dedicated to advancing research and education in Applied Mathematics, which has led to our recognition as a world-leading international center of excellence. Our excellence in Mathematics and Statistics has been recognized globally, as evidenced by our top rankings from international university ranking agencies. Our high success rate and substantial funding from RGC GRF/ECS grants also demonstrate our commitment to innovative research.
In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, PolyU has reached a record high, ranking 31st in "Statistics and Operational Research" and climbing from 117th to 66th place in "Mathematics", an impressive rise of 51 places. The "Statistics and Operational Research" subject has been ranked among the World Top 100 for eight consecutive years, showcasing our consistent excellence.
Additionally, according to the US News & World Report 2025, PolyU ranks 30th in the "Best Global Universities for Mathematics," securing the top spot in Hong Kong. Our achievements have also been acknowledged by Research.com, which ranks PolyU as the 5th Best Mathematics University in China. Furthermore, in the Research Assessment Exercise 2020, 89% of AMA's research was awarded a 4- or 3-star rating, indicating 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent' quality by international standards.
Moreover, AMA demonstrated a commendable performance in the 2024/25 GRF/ECS Exercise, securing funding support for 20 projects.

Funded Teaching & Learning Project
In addition to our research accomplishments, we take pride in our efforts to make significant advance in teaching.
Building on the success of leading the award-winning project “Developing Active Learning Pedagogies and Mobile Applications in University STEM Education” in 2017, our Teaching & Learning Team has expanded its efforts to bring technology-enabled active learning pedagogies to secondary school mathematics education. The team's project, “Developing Active Learning Pedagogies and Mobile Applications in Secondary School Mathematics Education” , has received funding support from the Quality Education Fund (QEF) of the Education Bureau of Hong Kong in 2020.
In 2024, our Teaching & Learning Team proposed a project titled “Empowering Gifted Minds: Nurturing the Next Generation of Data Scientists” and received funding support from the Gifted Education Fund of the Education Bureau of Hong Kong.
