The time-harmonic sound field in a car cabin is typically described by the solution of the Helmholtz equation. The numerical solution of the Helmholtz equation with large wave number is still a computational challenge nowadays. The objective of this project is to develop new cutting-edge computational technology that can be used in the numerical simulation of the cabin sound field for industrial automobile manufacturing. The interior penalty finite element method and high-order finite elements will be utilized, with new techniques to select the penalty parameters to significantly improve the computational performance of three-dimensional simulation.
