Students may be given credits for recognised previous studies, which will count towards meeting the requirements for their degrees. The granting of credit transfer is subject to specific criteria, including the validity period of the credits, limitations on the total number of credits that can be transferred, and approval from the relevant programme and subject offering Departments. For details, please refer to the section titled "Subject Exemption and Credit Transfer" under "Subject Registration" in the Student Handbook.

Typical Sources of Credit Transfer

  1. Previous Academic Qualifications: Students may transfer credits earned from other institutions (or PolyU, if applicable) towards their degree at the University.
  2. Public Examinations: Students who have attained a specific standard in public examinations before entering the University may be considered for credit transfer.
  3. Outbound Activities: Students may earn credit through various outbound activities, such as exchange programmes, during their undergraduate studies at PolyU. (Please refer to the procedures for obtaining credit transfer for outbound activities here.)

Credit Transfer Database (for Ug Programmes)

To assist both prospective and current undergraduate students in reviewing the transferability of their previous studies and outbound activities at PolyU, the University has developed a Credit Transfer Database.

This Database contains records on subject-to-subject credit transfers from institutional subjects and public examinations to PolyU credits. The subject-to-subject credit transfer records are available from the 2022/23 academic year onwards, while the examination-to-subject credit transfer records are available from the 2024/25 academic year.

Please click here to search the Credit Transfer Database.

Important Notes:

  1. The Database is for reference only. Records in the Database do not guarantee approval of credit transfer applications as each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The final decision rests with the relevant programme and subject offering Departments.
  2. The Database does not reflect the offer of subjects at the University or at the respective institutions. Students are advised to contact the respective subject offering Departments should they have questions related to the offer of a particular subject.  For subjects or examinations not listed in the Database, students can submit an application for evaluation.
  3. The Database does not cover block credit transfer cases which do not have subject/examination-to-subject mappings.  Students can consult the programme offering and subject offering Departments should they have questions in this area.
