Two 2012 graduates of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) were rewarded for their final-year dissertations during the Student Project Competition Awards 2012 organized by the Safety Specialist Committee (SSC) of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). Under the Master Degree Group, Ms CHOI Nga Yee Tracy was the Champion-CIC Award with her part-time MPhil investigation of the current application and future development of the Pay for Safety Scheme (PFSS) in the Hong Kong construction industry. Under the Bachelor Degree Group, another 2012 full-time BSc(Hons) in Surveying graduate, Ms LAW Ka Man Carman received a Merit award for her feasibility study of implementing the Pay for Safety Scheme (PFSS) in the private sector building projects in Hong Kong. Both of the winners were supervised by Dr Daniel W.M. Chan (陳煒明博士), Associate Professor of BRE.
The competition aimed at promoting safety and health in engineering and science regime; and providing an open and competitive platform for engineering students to demonstrate their engineering capabilities and share the learning process in safety and health regime. The Champion winner received an award certificate and a cash coupon of HK$2,000 during the HKIE-SSC Annual Dinner 2012-2013 launched on 11 January 2013 at the YMCA Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, and the Merit winner with an award certificate.
