In the Outstanding Student Dissertation Awards (2018-19) organized by the Chartered Institute of Building (Hong Kong), one alumni of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) of PolyU was rewarded for her final year dissertation announced on 6 August 2019. Under the bachelor degree category, Miss Tsoi Ting, Westing (蔡婷) was the prizewinner from PolyU with her empirical study of open space planning and its quality for public housing development in Hong Kong, and her dissertation was supervised by Dr Daniel W.M. Chan, Associate Professor of BRE. Miss Tsoi was a full-time "Surveying"degree graduate (major in building surveying) in June 2019 with First Class Honours and a final overall GPA score of 3.81 out of 4, which is also the highest and ranked as the first in class of her "Surveying" programme. She has been working for Swire Properties Ltd as a Technical Trainee since September 2019.
The primary goals of these awards are to promote excellence in construction project management and to recognize students with outstanding academic achievements. The awards were based on the quality of student’s own work for final year project / dissertation completed in the academic year 2018-19, the contents of which should cover the pertinent aspects of construction project management. The winner received an award certificate and a prize cheque of HK$1,000 at the CIOB (HK) Annual Dinner 2019 cum Construction Manager of the Year Awards (CMYA) Hong Kong 2018 Presentation Ceremony held on Tuesday, 17 September 2019 at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hong Kong Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.
