Explored New Progamme - BSc (Hons) in Architectural Studies

To launch the BSc (Hons) in Architectural Studies programme, BRE joined hands with the Global Engagement Office and the School of Design (SD) at PolyU to host an online Info Session in December 2024. This engaging event attracted non-local prospective students, parents, and high school counselors from around the globe who were eager to explore exciting academic opportunities. Kicking off with a warm welcome, the Session set the stage for an informative and inspiring hour. Attendees gained valuable insights into the BSc (Hons) in Architectural Studies programme, presented by Prof. Tris KEE from BRE who highlighted career prospects, admissions guidance, and portfolio tips. Also, Prof. Daniel ELKIN from SD followed with an introduction to the SD academic offerings. An interactive Q&A session allowed participants to have their questions answered in real-time, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas. We had the pleasure of welcoming over 30 esteemed high school principals and teachers from the Chinese mainland to our campus this month. The Counsellor Fly-in Programme was designed to give our visitors a comprehensive understanding of PolyU's undergraduate offerings and vibrant academic environment. During the event, we engaged in fruitful discussions about our undergraduate programmes and advanced facilities as well as highlighted innovations in the construction industry at our consultation counter. Dr Benjamin OLULEYE Awarded at CIB Best Doctoral Dissertation Award 2024

We are delighted to announce that Dr Benjamin OLULEYE, a BRE PhD graduate, was named one of the runners-up at the ‘CIB Best Doctoral Dissertation Award 2024’ this month. His dissertation titled ‘Assessment Model and Decision Support System for the Adoption and Implementation of Circular Economy in the Building Construction Industry in Nigeria’ highlighted noteworthy research in sustainable construction practices. A special thank-you to his supervisor, Dr Daniel CHAN, Associate Professor of BRE, for his invaluable guidance and support. Prof. Michael YAM’s Team Awarded at ASCCS 2024

Join us in congratulating Prof. Michael YAM and his research team on their outstanding achievement at ASCCS 2024! Prof. Michael YAM, Professor and Head of BRE, together with Dr Qun HE and Dr Yuchen SONG, Postdoctoral Fellows of BRE, were honoured with the 'Best Steel Structures Paper Award' at the 13th International Conference on Advances in Steel-Concrete Composite Structures (ASCCS 2024). Their paper, titled ‘A Novel Self-Centring Steel Column Base Connection Utilising SMA Shear Bars’, was recognised for their remarkable research and contribution to the field. ASCCS 2024, hosted by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at PolyU, with support from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, brought together international experts and leaders to share the latest research findings in structural steel, composite, and hybrid structures in December 2024.
