One alumni of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) was rewarded for her final-year dissertation during the Student Project Competition Awards 2013organized by the Safety Specialist Committee (SSC) of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). Under the Master Degree Group, a full-time MSc in Construction and Real Estate 2013 graduate with distinction, Miss LIU Yumeng (劉雨濛), Helen was the Champion-Towngas Award for her empirical study of the relationship between safety climate and safety performance of new construction projects in Mainland China, with particular reference to the city of Shanghai. She was supervised by her programme leader, Dr Daniel W.M. Chan (陳煒明博士), Associate Professor of BRE.
The competition aimed at promoting safety and health in engineering and science regime; and providing an open and competitive platform for engineering students to demonstrate their engineering capabilities and share the learning process in safety and health regime. The Champion winner received an award certificate and a cash coupon of HK$2,000 during the HKIE-SSC Annual Dinner 2013-2014 launched on 10 January 2014 at the YMCA Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
