With “double-ageing” as one of JCDISI’s strategic focuses, we have been exploring the potentials of introducing intergenerational (IG) play as a design concept to reimagine public open spaces in Hong Kong. We aim to design an enabling environment to support active ageing and reap benefits from intergenerational interactions.

Together with our strategic partner, Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS), JCDISI launched the “JC IG Play Space” Project at two public housing estates as two pilot studies, with the support of pilot funding from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust (JCCT) in 2022.  The two-year project will see JCDISI working with HKHS and local NGO to remodel the public spaces in two public housing estates through the IG play space concept and understand the needs of the community through community engagement.

In March, JCDISI will kickstart three community co-creation workshops at one of our pilot sites, Jat Min Chuen with MLKK Studio and Good Lab. The workshops aim to gather thoughts and imaginations about intergenerational play space of the community from different ages and backgrounds.  Stay tuned for more information!
