2024 Awardee
Mr CHIANG Tung-keung
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, 1994
Mr Chiang Tung-keung is the first Chinese Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings Limited, with over 30 years of experience in generation, transmission and distribution systems, and regulatory strategy. As the Managing Director of CLP Power Hong Kong from 2017 to 2023, he had overall responsibility for the company’s business, namely the operations of a vertically integrated electricity utility, as well as for initiatives targeting decarbonisation and digitalisation that have brought a cleaner, smarter power supply to over six million citizens. Mr Chiang has earned many professional designations, including Chartered Engineer, Honorary Fellow of the Vocational Training Council, Fellow of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and Honorary Fellow of the Energy Institute, UK. He also serves as a member of the Engineers Registration Board, a member of the 14th Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, a member of the HKSAR Election Committee and in other notable public roles. Equally impressive are his significant contributions to the PolyU Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Apart from leading CLP in providing the Department with research grants, technology transfer opportunities, scholarships, prizes and more, he is also the Chairman-designate of its Departmental Advisory Committee, actively supporting the University’s education and research development.

Mr FANG Bing
Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic and Information Engineering, 2014
Mr Fang co-founded Hai Robotics, the first unicorn start-up nurtured under PolyU's entrepreneurial ecosystem. The company independently developed HaiPick, the world's first Autonomous Case-handling Robot (ACR) system that boosts warehouse operation efficiency by three to four times and storage density by 80% to 400%. Hai Robotics currently serves customers from over 30 countries and regions, with offices in China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the Netherlands, Singapore and the U.S. Revolutionising warehouse logistics, it has filed over 1,800 patent applications worldwide and earned the RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award in 2022. As an enthusiastic alumnus, Mr Fang has played a crucial role in facilitating collaboration between PolyU and Hai Robotics, including the launch of the Smart Delivery System in the University's new Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Lab (AIR Lab) that not only strengthens robotics education, but also encourages co-creation and innovation among students and researchers.
He is a recipient of the Outstanding PolyU Young Alumni Award in Entrepreneurial Achievement.
2022 Awardee
Mr LAM Wing-chap, Peter

Mr Lam launched his career in 1973 at the Hong Kong Telephone Company, now known as Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT) Limited. Before his retirement from HKT, he was Managing Director, Engineering, responsible for the planning and operation of fixed and wireless networks, and support of a wide range of quadruple-play telecommunication services. Under his leadership, HKT not only won many industry awards but also increased the coverage of high-speed broadband in Hong Kong to 98%. Mr Lam has also served as an Honorary Advisor of the Communications Association of Hong Kong. He has forged close ties with his alma mater through serving as a Departmental Advisory Committee Member of the Department of Computing, and by chairing the Departmental Advisory Committee of the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering.
He is a recipient of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award in Professional Achievement.

Ir SIT Wing-hang, Alfred, GBS, JP

Ir Sit is the Former Secretary for Innovation and Technology of HKSAR. He previously worked in the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), working his way up to become Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services. Ir Sit is an ardent advocate of innovative technologies and has spearheaded the E&M InnoPortal at EMSD to forge a closer connection between Government units and the innovation and technology sector. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, he has been actively promoting R&D through encouraging the adoption of home-grown technologies to tackle the pandemic, and overseeing the provision of hardware and software to enable e-business and e-learning. Ir Sit is passionate about serving his professional community and alma mater. He is currently Chairman of the Departmental Advisory Committees of PolyU's Department of Building Services Engineering and Department of Electrical Engineering.

Ir LEE Kam-hung, Arthur

Ir Lee is Founder and Chairman of Kolinker Group, one of the leading manufacturers in the quartz crystal industry worldwide. His company has received numerous industrial awards including 2002 and 2011 Hong Kong Awards for Industry. Recently, the Group focuses on developing the GNSS Disciplined Oscillator series and ultra-stable high frequency oscillators which cater to the 5G applications. In 2019, the GNSS Disciplined Oscillator gained the Hong Kong Awards for Industries: Equipment and Machinery Design Award.
The accomplished industrialist has also been heavily involved in public and educational affairs. Currently he is a Member of Election Committee of 13th National People's Congress of China, Chairman of Kowloon City District Committee (Hung Hom District), Founder Chairman of Kowloon City District Senior Police Call Honorary Presidents Council, Vice President of Foundation Board of Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council (2003 Awardee of Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong), and Honorary Life Vice President of PolyU Foundation. He has offered supports to PolyU's industrial research on a continuous basis and established scholarships for students at PolyU. His technical publications are adopted as the de facto standard in the industry, such as his "Direct Impedance Method for Load Resonant Measurement of Crystal" presented in the US Piezoelectric Device Conference and Exhibition in 1999.

Ir Chan joined CLP Power Hong Kong in 1981, and has extensive management experience in the power and electricity industries in Mainland China and Hong Kong. He is mainly responsible for CLP's China business with projects encompassing a wide range of energy technologies from nuclear, coal-fired, hydro, wind, solar power, as well as smart energy, incremental distribution network and energy retail business. He is also a Director of CLP's Hong Kong business, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, and over 20 subsidiary companies and affiliated companies of the CLP Group. Despite his busy schedule working and travelling between the motherland and home, he devotes himself to various professional bodies, public posts and higher education, including serving as a member of the Election Committee for the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, a member of the 11th and 12th Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, Chairman of Membership Development Committee of the Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executives Association, a Council Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, a member of the Engineers Registration Board, an advisor of the Our Hong Kong Foundation, Vice Chairman of the China Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation, and a member of the "Hong Kong Coalition", etc.

Ir Dr CHAN Fuk-cheung, BBS

Ir Dr Chan had been the General Manager of CLP Engineering (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the CLP Group) before he retired in 2010. After retirement, he took up the post of Non-Executive Director of the company. He has extensive experience in power systems, specialising in power systems protection, distribution automation, lighting applications and energy services. Throughout his career, he has been involved in various management activities, including business process re-engineering, quality systems management, contingency planning and procurement. He has published over 50 papers and won the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Transactions Prizes in 2003 and 2007.
Dr Chan has made significant contributions to the engineering profession by serving as the Fellow and former President of HKIE. He has also been actively engaged in community services and undertaken various duties in government bodies and professional organisations. An ardent supporter of his alma mater, Dr Chan has been serving in the advisory committees of various PolyU departments and is currently the Honorary President of PolyU Electrical and Electronic Engineering Alumni. Dr Chan served the Board of Directors of the Association from 2013 to 2018.
Ir Dr NG Kam-wing, Kenneth

Ir Dr Ng has made significant contributions to the development of watch and clock industry of Hong Kong over the past decades. He was the Managing Director of Silcon Electronics Co. Ltd. As the leader of the industry, his company is now renowned for its technology knowhow, product quality and trend-setting designs. Through the setting up of the Watch Manufacturer Quality Club in 1992, Ir Dr Ng actively promoted the certification of ISO9000 in the industry and contributed much for up-lifting the quality and technology of the local watch industry. During his Presidency of the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association, he was instrumental in steering the establishment of Watch and Clock Technology Centre in 1997.
Ir Dr Ng has spared no efforts in community services by serving those in need and the underprivileged. He is a fervent supporter of the Lions Club activities. He also cares much about his alma mater. He has served on various advisory committees of PolyU and has played an active role in many fund-raising activities of the University. He was honoured with "Distinguished Alumni Award" by PolyU's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in 2012.

Emeritus Prof. WONG Kit-po

Emeritus Prof. Wong was an internationally known expert in the areas of power system engineering and computational intelligence applications in power, with over a hundred and twenty research papers and a collection of awards. He taught at University of Western Australia for over 30 years before joining PolyU as Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering in 2002. Prof. Wong rejoined the University of Western Australia in late 2011 again as Winthrop Professor of its School of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering. He was also a well-known Master in Tai Chi and Kungfu who significantly contributed to the promotion of these kinds of Chinese martial arts in both Hong Kong and Australia. Unfortunately, Prof. Wong passed away in July 2018.

Prof. Law Chung-king is an international authority in the areas of combustion, propulsion, fluid mechanics, energy and the environment. He had published more than 550 journal articles as of 2021, leading to him being recognised by various citation and indexing agencies, including the Institute for Scientific Information, as one of the most cited researchers worldwide in the field of engineering. His academic prowess has earned him many professional designations: apart from being an Elected Member of the National Academy of Engineering in the US, he has also been a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the American Physical Society. Ir Lai was the Former Director of Electrical & Mechanical Services. He contributed tremendously in the fields of the legislative enforcement of electrical safety, gas safety, as well as the promotion of efficient energy in Hong Kong. His earlier work in biomedical engineering provided not only substantial support to public hospitals, but also solid foundation for the subsequent development of biomedical engineering in the territory.

Ir Dr Leung is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Growgreen Ltd. He is also Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Solomon Systech Limited. Committed to advancing the development of the semiconductor and electronics industry and nurturing industry talents, Dr Leung serves on various committees of the HKSAR Government, industry associations, professional bodies, universities and research institutions. Among the many awards he has received for his outstanding achievements and contributions is the Young Industrialist Award of Hong Kong. Dr Leung is currently a member of the PolyU Council.

Dr CHANG Chu-cheng

Outstanding PolyU Alumni Awardees 2928 BUILDERS OF A BETTER WORLD
Dr Chang Chu-cheng, Chairman of iView Limited, has made an outstanding contribution to Hong Kong’s
electronics sector. His expertise in superconductive electronics saw him receive an award from the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States, and co-found one of the world’s leading
manufacturers of Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs).
After completing a Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering at PolyU’s predecessor Hong Kong Technical
College in 1964, Dr Chang went on to obtain a doctorate in solid state electronics at the University of
Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in the United Kingdom.
He returned to Hong Kong to take up lectureships in physics and later electronics at The Chinese University
of Hong Kong. It was here that he co-founded Varitronix in 1978, with his university colleague Dr York Liao
and three associates. The company manufactured small-to-medium-sized LCDs, which offered complete
solutions for a wide range of applications in the automotive and industrial sectors. Varitronix grew under his
stewardship, and was listed in Hong Kong in 1991.
Dr Chang has also made his mark in the research arena. During the 1976/1977 academic year, he took a
sabbatical to work on a NASA project at what is now the National Institute of Science and Technology, north
of Washington DC in the United States. His contribution to the development of a microwave integrated
circuit for Josephson voltage standard earned him certificates of recognition from NASA in 1979 and 1984.
Emeritus Prof. TSOI Ah-chung

Prof. Tsoi was the Dean of Faculty of Information Technology of The Macau University of Science and Technology. He was a pioneering scholar and researcher in the area of Artificial Neural Networks. His research achievements lied mainly in the development of theories and the practical applications of artificial intelligence, including neural network techniques. Prof. Tsoi was a Director of the Board of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association during 2012 to 2016. He retired in mid-2016, now an Emeritus Professor, University of Wollongong, Australia, and is now residing in Brisbane.

Ir Dr Poon is Chairman of ATAL Engineering Group. With more than 50 years of experience in engineering and business, he has contributed significantly toward the accreditation of engineering degrees. He is a member of the Legislative Council Election Committee – Engineering Subsector, President of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, Life President of Hong Kong Federation of Electrical and Mechanical Contractors, Honorary Advisor of the Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre, and was formerly President of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Dr Poon was honored with the title of University Fellowship by PolyU in 2006/2007.

Ir Dr WONG Ho-ching, Chris

Ir Dr Wong is a recipient of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award, the Hong Kong Outstanding Industrial Engineers Award for the Millennium and Fellow of the US Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) in recognition of his professional leadership and outstanding contributions to industrial engineering. He is also the first non-US based Fellow of IIE.
Ir Dr Wong retired as the Director of the Industrial Centre of PolyU in 2009. He served his tenure of this post from 1991. Founded as a vocational training centre, the Industrial Centre later developed into a "Learning Factory" and became the University's first Area of Strength. The Centre was depicted by the US Institute of Industrial Engineers as "something Hong Kong should be proud of"; quoted by the School of Management of Xi'an Jiatong University as a case study of management excellence; and described by the Chinese Academy of Engineering as "innovator of engineering education." The Centre is also "where miracles are continuosely engineered" cited by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and "where Hong Kong Legend is created" labelled by the Hong Kong local media.
