Departmental Orientation for New Research Postgraduate Students

We are glad to have 13 of our new research postgraduate students attend the Department’s Orientation held on 6 September 2022 at P304.  Even though Professor W. Jin, our DRC Chairman was unable to attend due to an urgent matter, we are pleased to have invited our new Department Head, Professor C.Y. Chung to welcome our new students to EE Family.  He would like all new students not only to learn but also to enjoy the whole study period at PolyU.  Since there are some programme structure and policy changes, Dr Kevin Chan, the Associate Head of the Department gave a short introduction about the Department as well as the whole programme particularly in course work and graduation requirements, departmental intranet, and some essential policies on de-registration, transfer of study, deferment etc. Once again, we wish all new students to enjoy their research and learning journey in the Department.

Seminar on "Privacy is Not an Afterthought”

Departmental Orientation

This is the first year the Department launches its Scheme programme and we are pleased to invite our new Department Head, Professor C.Y. Chung to meet our freshmen in this Orientation held on 26 August 2022.  There are totally 86 freshmen and 28 senior year students attended the orientation which was conducted in hybrid mode.  Apart from Dean and Head’s welcome addresses, we have also invited Dr Kevin Chan, Scheme Leader, and other senior staff to greet our freshmen and introduce the programme details and various teaching and learning opportunities to come.    We hope that our students could enjoy their study in the Department.  Once again, welcome them joining our EE Family.

PolyU Summer Programme

The Department organized the EIE PolyU Summer Programme for more than 30 secondary school students on 8 August 2022. They were welcomed by Dr Lawrence Cheung with an introduction of the EIE undergraduate programmes. Our BEng in EIE graduate and PhD student, Mr Cheung Tsun Hin, also shared his study life during the Q&A and student sharing sessions. Followed by a talk on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) given by Dr Lawrence Cheung and Dr Ivan Ho, a Robotic Workshop was conducted for the participants. The event provided the students a valuable opportunity to enhance their technical skill by building a robotic car, learn more about the AI and IoT technologies, and experience the university life during their summer break.The Department organized the EIE PolyU Summer Programme for more than 30 secondary school students on 8 August 2022. AAEIE Turkish Mosiac Lamp Workshop

The Alumni Association of Electronic and Information Engineering (AAEIE) organized a Turkish Mosiac Lamp Workshop for their members on 18 June 2022. The participants were able to create a unique mosaic lamp for themselves in a relaxing environment. They also got a taste of Turkey’s art and culture during this artistic workshop.

PolyU Faculty Seminar Series

The University launched the PolyU Faculty Seminar Series in May to bring together representatives from different faculties for giving an overview of the PolyU study experience and presenting the special features of individual faculties and departments. The session for the Faculty of Engineering was held on 16 May 2022 for more than 160 secondary school students, teachers and parents. Prof. Kenneth Lam, our Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, welcomed the participants by introducing the Faculty and the importance of engineers in supporting the development of different industries. Prof. Man-Wai Mak, Interim Head of the Department, also shared the key components of the three EIE undergraduate programmes, and helped the audience to have a deeper understanding of the needs of the society and the high demand for IT professionals during the seminar.
