26th Optoelectronics and Communications Conference (OECC2021)

Date: 3 – 7 July 2021   The Conference is organized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and co-sponsored by the Optical Society and IEEE Photonics Society.  Due to the situation of COVID-19, it is transformed into an online conference. The local organizing committee tried its best to keep live interactions among participants online. All presented papers were indexed by EI compendex and available in Optics InfoBase (OSA) and IEEE Xplore.  OECC 2021 will continue in the footsteps of its predecessors, to serve as a great platform for researchers to discuss and explore advanced technologies of optoelectronics and communications from device to system levels. We have received papers relevant to the following topics: S1. Core/Access/Data Center Networks and Subsystems S2. Transmission Systems and technologies S3. Optical Fibers, Fiber Amplifiers and Fiber Devices S4. Optical Active Devices and Modules S5. Optical Passive Devices and Modules S6. Space Division Multiplexing and Related Devices S7. Nanophotonics and Integrated Devices S8. Optical Sensing and Measurements S9. Biophotonics and Imaging   For more details, please check here: http://www.oecc2021.org/index.php

Technical seminar by Dr. Ivan Li, on Carbon Pricing: Opportunities from China’s Carbon Neutrality Goal

Date: 12 Jun 2021 Organiser: IEEE JC and EE PolyU Time: 15:00 - 16:00 Speaker: Dr. Ivan Li Summary On September 22, 2020, President Xi Jinping announced at the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly that China will strive to become carbon neutral by 2060. Carbon neutrality means achieving net zero carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by removing (often through carbon offsets) the same level of emissions that are emitted, or simply eliminating CO₂ emissions altogether. A more ambitious goal than carbon neutrality is to achieve zero carbon emissions, but a national goal of carbon neutrality would already imply that most players within the economic system achieve zero carbon. The announcement of China's carbon neutrality establishes a direction for realizing a "Zero-carbon China" and will greatly support the drive toward carbon pricing and green, sustainable, and high-quality development. This talk will cover the background of carbon trading and carbon pricing, China’s carbon trading revolution and how carbon neutrality goal will activate the market and encourage more long-term value investors to focus on low/zero-carbon development and invest in low/zero-carbon assets, projects, and technologies.
