Freshmen Gathering

A warm welcome to our new students! To help our new students get familiar and connect with the Department, a Freshmen Gathering was held on 25 October 2018. In the gathering, Professor Tam Hwa-yaw, the Head of Department, and our academic staff introduced the Department and other useful information about their study to our new students. We hope that all our new students will have a fruitful and enjoyable learning experience at PolyU!

HK Electric - Cable Tunnel Visit

We have 30 numbers of staff and EE students participated in the Cable Tunnel Visit organized by Hongkong Electric.  This tunnel is located at Wah Fu – Bowen Cable Tunnel.  All participants are required to walk uphill for about 15 minutes from Lily Garden in Pokfulam Road.

Final Year Project Tea Reception 2018

We have continued support from our industrial partners in project supervision.  Same as previous years, we secured a number of co-supervisors from various industries including CLP, Hongkong Electric, Architectural Services Dept, AECOM, Dolphin Concepts and HK Observatory to assist our students in their final year projects. It is our honour to invite the Department’s Academic Advisor, Professor Vladimiro Miranda to witness the process.  In the Tea Reception, we also introduced not only the Underwater robot but also past projects like colour detection robot, Software system for Numerical Analysis and Smart Car to our co-supervisors. The Tea Reception was held on 21 September 2017 at our Undergraduate Teaching Lab. The industrial co-supervisors and the students had a very fruitful discussion, all had a great afternoon.

Research Student Gathering for 2017/18

The Department organized a Research Student Gathering for 2017/18 on 8th June 2018 (Friday), in which it serves as a platform for all research students who are in different research disciplines to meet and share on their studies at PolyU.  In this half-day activity, 9 PhD students were invited to give a 15-minute presentation on their research topics while another 13 PhD/MPhil students were selected to join the poster session.  VP(RD), Department Head, DRC Chair and academic staff joined the event and shared valuable comments and ideas with participants.

RAE 2020 Consultant’s visit to the Department

It is our great pleasure to have invited Professor Bashir Al-Hashimi to visit the Department from 28 to 29 May 2018.  This is his first visit to Hong Kong and the main purpose for his visit is to meet our staff members to share his experience as RAE2014 panel members.  He is also helping our staff members to prepare for the upcoming ‘Research Assessment Exercise” (RAE) 2020.   Professor Al-Hashimi gave valuable hints and insights during each session.  He enlightens us of how to prepare for good submission in terms of contents and direction.  His guidance and support is very strong and reliable.  The Department will work out an Action Plan to ensure everything will be on track.

Graduation Tea Reception 2018

Congratulations to the students graduating from Department of Electrical Engineering in 2018 and we wish you all every success in your future endeavours.   In this tea reception, it is our great honour to have invited our donors to present the prizes and awards: Outstanding Final Year Project Award, Best Final Year Project Award in “Electric Vehicle Technologies” and Dolphin Concepts Outstanding Final Year Project Award.    Also, our greatest appreciation to our student helpers and class representatives for their support to the Department throughout the year!

PolyU STEM Lecture Series

The Department of Electrical Engineering participated in the PolyU STEM Lecture Series held in Wong Shiu Chi Secondary School, Tai Po, on 16 March 2018. The event was organized by Secondary School Relations Section (SSRS) of PolyU.  This lecture was given by Dr Isaac Fung and the topic is “Self-driving Cars”.  More than 25 students from schools in the Tai Po area attended the lecture and they were introduced to LIDAR system, image processing and AI.
